The Power of Performance: The PLA Performance Measures Initiative

Just as they do on “Dancing with the Stars,” if the public doesn’t like your performance, they vote – usually with their feet. If you are interested in understanding your community by using a simple and straightforward measurement process, come hear from colleagues that have been trained on and implemented a powerful one. Learn what differences it has made in planning services, improving programming, and enhancing connections with their communities.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Learn about participant experiences and the value of performance measurement in planning and decision making. 2: Hear how the project supports the library's use, implementation, advocacy, and planning efforts. 3: Discover about participation opportunities.

Carolyn Anthony,

Carolyn Anthony is Director of the Skokie Public Library, Illinois. She was President of the Public Library Association 2013-2014, initiating the development of easy-to-use Outcome Measures that could be widely adopted by public libraries throughout the U.S. She has also been involved in leadership development in PLA and was instrumental in the design and implementation of the PLA Leadership Institute. She is the public library Co-Chair of the Digital Content Working Group (DCWG).
Denise Davis, Deputy Library Director
Sacramento Public Library, Sacramento, CA
Denise Davis is the Deputy Library Director of Sacramento Public Library and has contributed to the library profession with more than 30 years of library experience, as well as directing research at the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science and the American Library Association's Office for Research and Statistics. Denise chairs the Public Library Association (PLA) Performance Measures Task Force.
Emily Plagman, Project Manager
Public Library Association, Chicago, IL
Emily is a Project Manager with the Public Library Association's Project Outcome and is overseeing its development and implementation. Prior to joining PLA she was a Senior Planner at the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning where she oversaw the development and deployment of grant-funded energy efficiency programs. She has a Masters in International Public Affairs from UW Madison and Bachelors in Political Science from Marquette University.
