Half Day Preconference

Powerful Summers: Library-Community-School Partnerships

Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Colorado Convention Center, Room 505-507

This interactive preconference explores strategies and partnerships for summer learning. Find out how summer learning experts, schools, community partners and libraries are working together to address the challenge of summer learning loss by maximizing summer opportunities for youth. Join the conversation on piloting new partnerships, identifying outcomes and exploring new models for summer. Share your experience and get advice, as participants craft a vision for summer. This interactive session will build on research conducted by the Urban Libraries Council (ULC) in partnership with the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

At the end of this session, participants will:

1: Understand the challenge of summer learning loss and demonstrated strategies for libraries to address it. 2: Know how to message the special value of the library in summer learning. 3: Build a mission statement for library-school-community summer learning partnerships.

The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 2: People with some knowledge, who want to increase their understanding.
