Libraries collect a lot of data: circulation, program attendance, user satisfaction, etc. In this preconference, you will learn how to go beyond simply collecting and reporting on these numbers. Through a series of interactive exercises, you will discover how to analyze your data, use your results to inform your strategic planning, management, and communication with stakeholders, and visually present your statistics in infographics and other formats to demonstrate your library’s impact.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Be able to conduct standard types of public library data analysis. 2: Have increased skills and confidence in using data for strategic planning, management, and communication with stakeholders. 3: Be able to visually present data so that it tells a powerful story about their library.

Denise Davis is the Deputy Library Director of Sacramento Public Library and has contributed to the library profession with more than 30 years of library experience, as well as directing research at the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science and the American Library Association's Office for Research and Statistics. Denise chairs the Public Library Association (PLA) Performance Measures Task Force.

Rochelle Logan retired as Associate Director of Support Services at Douglas County Libraries, Colorado (DCL). In her role at DCL, she oversaw management of Collection Services, Bibliographic Services, Literacy and the Douglas County History Research Center. She currently serves on the PLA Project Outcome Taskforce where she is helping design, test and implement tools for outcome measurement for libraries across the country. Rochelle is now a library consultant specializing in data analysis, evaluation and planning.

Nicolle has been with the Colorado State Library for more than 15 years, holding several positions at the Library Research Service, including nine years as Director. At LRS her major projects included research about library workforce issues, ROI for public libraries, and outcome-based evaluation. She is currently pursuing her interest in collection development and service to under-served populations as the Technical Services Librarian at the Colorado Talking Book Library.
