Building for the Future Today: Broadband Planning

Representatives from state library agencies, network managers, IT directors, and library consortia will share lessons learned that will help you plan a successful broadband upgrade. We will take into consideration planning, implementation, assessment, and the different challenges for urban and suburban vs. rural and small libraries in attempting to bridge the digital divide for all users.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Know how to assess the needs of your community, the amount of broadband available, and whether or not the price is right. 2: Have examples of planning, implementation, and assessment stages. 3: Be able to discern the different challenges for urban and suburban vs. rural and small libraries in attempting to bridge the digital divide for all users.

Emily started her library career as an "Information Wrangler" for CNN. She went on to manage the ILS and InfoCommons for Emory University and from there, she moved to the Atlanta Journal Constitution | ajc.com to be an Information Architect & Project Manager. Emily started her work at GPLS as a software development project manager and is now the Director of IT.

Marijke leads and coordinates all of ALA's work on E-rate. She is also co-chair of the Edlinc Coalition, the primary coalition promoting E-rate policy for libraries and schools at the national level. In addition to E-rate, Marijke supports the Program on Networks focusing on broadband adoption issues for diverse populations. Marijke also serves as Program Director for OITP's emerging portfolio on children, youth, and technology.
