The Studio Experience: Creating a Makerspace for Ages 0-108

Learn how The Studio at Anythink Brighton (CO) grew to offer extraordinary experiences for ages 0-108, from banana bongos for babies, to embroidery for adults, to 3D printing for teenagers, and robotics for all ages. The session will offer program ideas, tips and tools for creating scalable, sustainable programming, and suggestions for expanding makerspaces beyond technology and tinkering. Get hands on with The Studio and learn how to share your creative talents in a maker environment.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Understand how staff passions drive successful programs. 2: Become empowered to plan a maker program regardless of age or dedicated space. 3: Gain a framework for creating successful targeted and intergenerational programs.

Janet Hollingsworth, Teen Guide

Janet Hollingsworth is a graduate of Tufts University with degrees in Civil Engineering and Architectural Studies. She worked as a structural engineer for several years before starting her furniture business in 2012, R+J Fine Woodworking and Original Designs, LLC. She then worked at Anythink Libraries as a Teen Librarian where she developed the all-ages Studio makerspace with emphasis on hands-on informal education. She is now at Boulder Library and runs the BLDG 61 Makerspace.
Sandra Brown, Adult Guide
Anythink Libraries, Brighton, CO
Sandra Brown earned her BA from Mills College in CA where she studied English Literature and Book Arts. She spent the next eight years as an arts administrator for The Women's Studio Workshop in upstate New York. After pursuing her MLIS at the University at Albany, Sandra joined the Anythink team. At Anythink she provides reference and adult services and develops adult and multigenerational programming focused on hand processes and craft techniques in The Studio.
Catherine Odson, Tech Guide
Anythink Libraries, Brighton, CO
Catherine Odson is a Roving Tech Guide with Anythink Libraries. In her current role, she creates and presents technology and maker programming for all ages at three different branches. She previously worked at the Vermillion (SD) Public Library and the University of Pennsylvania. She holds an MS in library and information science from Drexel University and a BS in journalism from the University of Kansas.
