We Are Tech Workers: Cultivating a Library Technoculture
Thursday, April 7, 2016, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Colorado Convention Center, Room 401-404
Markham is Canada’s “High-Tech Capital,” housing 900 high-tech companies and their employees. In response, Markham Public Library began hosting maker and coding events, launched a digital media lab, and purchased 3D printers. When skill gaps in our workforce thwarted efforts to engage staff with new services, we embarked on a culture-shifting journey to develop a deep understanding and appreciation for technology. Come hear about our Staff Tech Conference, TEDxMarkhamPublicLibrary, Digital Artist in Residence program, and more!
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Have a better understanding of the importance of linking company culture to large-scale service model changes. 2: Be able to better prepare for challenges that might be encountered while cultivating your library's technoculture, based on the actual challenges encountered by Markham Public Library staff. 3: Take away best practices and tips from Markham Public Library's experience, which can be applied to your own organizational change initiatives regarding technology.
The session organizer(s) identified this session as appropriate for:
Level 1: People with no previous knowledge of the topic.
This session will have: Low interaction: single speaker/panel with Q&A at the end of the program
