Thursday, April 7, 2016, 10:45 AM - 11:45 AM
Colorado Convention Center, Room 301-303
Hydraulic butterflies? DNA extraction? Computer programming principles via life-sized mazes?! STEM isn’t scary, it’s fun! At this hands-on presentation, you’ll learn how to incorporate engaging STEM programming in your library. We’ll walk you through everything from finding and evaluating potential STEM activities, to incorporating them into lively programs for all ages. Participants will leave with an arsenal of 52 kid-tested, librarian-approved STEM programs and access to additional resources and evaluation tools for future STEM programming.
An online version of this concurrent program session was presented during the PLA 2016 Virtual Conference.
At the end of this session, participants will:
1: Learn about 52 pre-tested STEM programs for children, teens, and families, and leave with the resources to easily implement them at your library.
2: Provide solid rationale to your colleagues and administrators as to why STEM programming is vital to your community.
3: Learn how to research, evaluate, and incorporate new STEM ideas and activities into existing library programs and outreach activities.
