Does the idea of networking frighten you? Terrify you? Cause compulsive cocktail napkin wadding and/or nervous laughter? As a librarian out in the business community I understand your struggle and I am here to help! Networking for Wallflowers is a special workshop tailored to the needs of introverted librarians. We will identify what librarians have to offer, how to talk about those things, and practice making connections. Success is achievable for every personality type!

At the end of this session, participants will:

1: Learn a parking lot speech. 2: Identify the value of adding skills/potential connections. 3: Have confidence in your organization's value to the community.

Amy Fisher, Information & Reader Services Manager

Amy Fisher is the Information and Reader Services Manager at the Mid-Continent Public Library. With an MLS from the University of Missouri, Amy has worked in libraries since 1994. She currently overseas MCPL's new Small Business Outreach Initiative. Amy has presented for the Missouri State Library, Mid-America Library Alliance, and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation's FastTrac program. When Amy isn't working, you can find her binge watching TV or reading trashy novels.

Morgan Perry, Small Business Specialist
Mid-Continent Public Library, Independence, MO

Morgan Perry is a Business Specialist at Mid-Continent Public Library. Her background includes theater, event planning and educational programming but her true super power is making boring stuff fun. She works closely with the small business community for large presentations and niche groups like innovation centers for one-on-one education. You can catch her new program "Tell Me a Story: Using Storytelling Techniques to Tell Your Business Story" at a library near you!

Cancellation Policy

Written cancellations, requests for refunds, and/or changes will be accepted until February 26, 2016, and are subject to a $30 handling fee. Refunds will be processed after April 25, 2016. According to PLA policy, all meal events require preregistration. The above cancellation/change information also applies to all preconferences, meal events, and tours.

The PLA 2016 Conference is offered on a cost-recovery basis. PLA reserves the right to cancel all or any part of this event if there is insufficient registration or for other reasons. Neither ALA nor PLA is responsible for cancellation charges assessed by the airlines or travel agencies, or other losses incurred due to the cancellation of the workshops. All information listed on this website is subject to change.

Appropriate Conduct

Attire

There is no formal dress code at the PLA Conference. What’s most important is to dress for comfort.

Conference Logo

The custom logos of the PLA 2016 Conference are the property of PLA. Anyone wishing to use the logos in their communications and promotional materials must: 1) Seek permission from PLA; and 2) Submit communication/artwork incorporating the logo to PLA for final approval. The logo may not be modified and must be reproduced in its entirety (i.e., no outlines, cropping). Firearms

No carrying of firearms allowed in the Colorado Convention Center unless you’re on-duty law enforcement or off-duty and on payroll of the show or SMG (convention center management).
